30th August - Q Magazine, BBC Radio 2 & Hoax Funeral!

Hello all,

We haven't spoken to many of you for awhile now, but we wanted to give you some updates about what's been happening with us these days...

Our album "Pour Away the Ocean" is selling well and attracting all sorts of interest. If you haven't yet got a copy please see below for details on how to order or get free downloads.

We've been included in the "Next Big Thing" section of Q Magazine. This is for the October 2007 issue which hits the news stands at the start of September. There's a picture and a write-up about us, as well as the link to our MySpace page.

For those of you not familiar with Q Magazine...it's like being featured in Rolling Stone magazine in the states! Q is the #1 selling music mag in the entire UK...something like a monthly circulation of 140,282 and a readership of 731,000. It's syndicated in the States, Aus, Canada, NZ and South Africa - all the English speaking world basically.

Go out and grab a copy and help us celebrate (tell a friend too)!!

We have recently received national airplay through BBC Radio 2 on the Mark Radcliffe & Stuart Maconie show (They played the opening track from our album "Melting (Into Corners)" which they described as "lovely"). They also declared that Hoax Funeral was a great name for a band!

We've also been playlisted by French Internet radio station Kokomo.fr and Anjy, Cherish and Al were interviewed on our local independent station, Rutland Radio. A glowing review of "Pour Away The Ocean" appeared in the Italian online music mag Ondarock.it in which the album received 7/10 (outscoring Smashing Pumpkins amongst other albums released that week !)

We're starting to attract a bit of interest on Last.FM. For those of you who don't know about this, it's a huge online radio station which tracks your music tastes (a piece of software monitors what you like to listen to by tracking your iTunes or similar plays) and then returns recommendations of other bands you might like. For those of you who use Last.FM please check out our page on there and if you don't use it you really should give it a go as it is an excellent way of
discovering new music: www.last.fm/music/Hoax+Funeral

Our album is available digitally on a service called indiestore.com which allows users to download individual tracks (for 79p) or the whole album (for £7.99). Unlike iTunes, tracks downloaded from this service have no copy protection and can be downloaded in a format to suit your music player (e.g. wma as well as MP3) so it really is a far superior service to iTunes but with the same pricing levels, at least for UK customers. Note - the album artwork is now available on the Indiestore site so you can download the cover and make your own version of the CD (but without the mugshot of us that appears on the official version. This may be a
good thing indeed!) www.indiestore.com/hoaxfuneral

Try before you buy!!! For those of you who prefer caution, are on a budget
or just don't like paying for music there are several free tracks from the
album available for download.

"Lean-To Shelter" and "Forest Road One" can be found on our myspace page: www.myspace.com/hoaxfuneral

"Hotel Las Vegas" can be downloaded free from the Indiestore site
www.indiestore.com/hoaxfuneral and "Forest Road Two" can be downloaded gratis from our Last.FM page www.last.fm/music/Hoax+Funeral

If you're one of those people who likes to be able to hold the album they just bought or maybe use the disc as a drinks mat you can buy the CD version of the album here (shipped to anywhere in the world inc. posting and packing for £10):

Or purchase the album digitally at:

2nd April - New Video to be shot!

We're so excited...filmmaker Tim Berry has approached us about making a video for our song (from our upcoming album). His work is amazing and we're so priviledged to be working with him. Check out his latest video for the band Venus Bogardus (a single called "Jacques Rigaut")

2nd April - New album update - almost there!

Hello all

Thought you'd like to know that work is almost complete on our forthcoming album. We finished the last of four recording sessions last weekend and all the basic tracks are in the can waiting for producer Owen Turner to complete editing and mixing. This should happen over the next couple of weeks and we're projecting a late spring release date.

It's been a very exacting but very enjoyable time, hidden away in the depths of rural Norfolk suffering variously from extreme heat, biting cold and the effects of excessive alcohol consumption. We've benefited considerably from the experience and cajoling of Owen who's played the roles of host, mentor, guitar tuner, lifestyle guru and voice coach with patience and considerable skill.

We're all looking forward to hearing the finished mixes and we hope to be able to post a track or two on our myspace page over the next few weeks. Details of how to order the album will be made available here as soon as we know them.

Best to all

22nd January - Third Recording Session

Sorry for the lack of updates. We go back to Sickroom Studios for our third recording session at the end of the month (still trying to get this damned album recorded).

We have been working on a series of home recording sessions over the course of the winter, which will be available to download and listen to shortly.

More Soon!

11th October - Forest Road EP

01. Before the Leaves Fell (A Hall / Hoax Funeral)
02. Forest Road One and Two (C Gregory / Hoax Funeral)
03. Girl Who Loved the Winter (C Gregory / Hoax Funeral)
04. A Prophecy Fulfilled (C Gregory / Hoax Funeral)

These songs were recorded at our home studio in between sessions for our forthcoming album (to be released sometime early in 2007). “Before the Leaves Fell” and “The Girl Who Loved the Winter” are exclusive to this EP and will not appear on the album. “Forest Road One and Two” are short acoustic tracks that will be re-recorded for the album. We’ve also included “A prophecy fulfilled”; this was the Hoax track that featured on BBC Radio One’s Rob Da Bank show back in January and won us all the Mazzy Star comparisons!

All tracks recorded at Laundry Cottage: recorded and mixed by Chris Gregory

This EP is available for free download. If you really enjoy what you hear please consider making a charitable donation to Pebbles Project - a wonderful charity offering support to children with special educational needs, particularly those whose lives are affected by alcohol, in the Western Cape of South Africa:

Or to Free Arts…

Free Arts sparks the creative spirit of abused, homeless and at-risk children and their families to inspire and transform their lives through the power of artistic expression. It’s the charity that the Elliott Smith Memorial Fund has dedicated it’s donations to. It has a beautiful ethos that we love:

And of course, please buy our forthcoming album when it comes out!

Djs, record companies, etc. – for a free copy of this EP on CD please email us at band@hoaxfuneral.com stating which organisation you represent and your postal address.

10th September - HoaxFuneral.com

The new website is up!! A huge thanks to Ashley Kay for designing it for us. It's exactly what we wanted, we hope you like it as much as we do.

We've been hard at work recording our new album with producer Owen Turner at The Sickroom Studios (near Norwich). We go back for our next session in November. Lots of hard work and countless hours have went into this. We think the finished product is going to be something to be proud of.

Leicester based band Pacific Ocean Fire's new album “From the Station to the Church We Are Under the Same Stars” is out now from Sorted Records. Pick up a copy, it features guest vocals from Anjy on the duet “Leaving Dusty Footprints”.

It's been getting lots of great reviews in pretty cool places:

7th July

We finally have our self-titled album up for sale!! More info here !

Jon and Dave from the wonderful band Pacific Ocean Fire has graciously agreed to appear on our upcoming album being recorded at The Sickroom Studios (with producer Owen Turner) in August. We're so excited about this!!

Finally...we have a video page now with "A Prophecy Fulfilled" and some live footage from the Riverside Fest gig we performed on 1 July.
8th June

We have a new video up for "A Prophecy Fulfulled " on our MySpace page. Nothing fancy, just the woods, a camera and some goofy band shots, with Chris mysteriously absent (because he was filming!).
23rd May

Just wanted to mention that we enjoyed our last two shows immensely. Micah Blue Smaldone and his friend/road manager/label host Paul stayed with us for a couple of nights and we had such a wonderful time getting acquainted. May the rest of his tour go smoothly. Catch him if you can...he's amazing.

Also, thanks so much to our friends Fiona Cowan and Sairz for throwing the Belvoir Castle shindig (and Fi especially for all the help she gave us for the Collyweston gig). We had so much fun.
